The National Citizen Service Trust worked to empower young people as part of the government’s National Youth Guarantee.

The National Citizen Service (NCS) was founded in 2009 and granted Royal Charter Body status in 2018. It provided opportunities for 16 to 17 year olds in England to build confidence, develop key skills, and prepare for the world of work through residential trips, community-based projects, and online experiences. NCS delivered almost one and a half million experiences to young people, and through NCS, young people completed more than 18 million hours of volunteering and social action. Over 80% of young people who took part in the NCS programme said they gained valuable skills for the future and 70% agreed that NCS fostered respect for diversity. The National Citizen Service programme concluded on 31 March 2025 and the National Citizen Service Trust will be closed in due course.
